Bi Jean most recently played the leading role of
Shen Te & Shui Ta in The Good Person of Setzuan at The Wilma Theater.
She is an Associate Member of the The Wilma Theater's Hothouse resident acting company. The Wilma Theater is the recipient of the 2024 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
"Any production of Good Person depends in large part on the title role...Bi Jean Ngo triumphs at this challenging task, with distinct physical and vocal characterization. To further differentiate the two characters, Ngo has translated many of Shui Ta’s lines and speaks them in Vietnamese, a crisp contrast to Shen Te’s English. Her performance here propels her into the top rank of Philadelphia actors."--

"Ngo is an able and versatile performer who has been steadily working in Philadelphia for as long as I can remember. I was particularly moved by her wonderful performance in Interact’s The Chinese Lady last November, and enjoyed her in the Arden’s spring 2022 production of Backing Track. 1812’s development of Ngo and this piece, stretching back a decade with the Jilline Ringle Solo Performance Program, feels like a gift to audiences...
Ngo’s greatest strength is that she is a winning and likable performer. She bounds across the stage, unafraid to get zany, sing songs, or lean in to the absurd. Her broad (and loving) imitations of a neighbor and a far-flung aunt are particularly effective and funny."

"Seeing the physical state Mary is in (a bravura performance by Barrymore-winner Bi Jean Ngo), we agree. So does her partner, Derek (persuasive, edgy David M. Raine), aghast at the transformation in her. It’s a play well worth seeing."
